There’s an event that Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche staged with his students in the 70s. He invited them all over to his house and asked them to bring their pot and paraphernalia. The students all thought that it was going to be a gigantic smoke in.

However, after a brief intro, CTR asked all the students to put their stash in one big pile. Then he began throwing the pot and stuff into the fire, one by one, while chanting, “We are burning self-deception. We are burning self-deception. We are burning self-deception.”

hahahaha! burn, baby, burn. oh, Trungpa, thank you for the Crazy Wisdom you’ve given us.

“Do not be cowed down. You are real, pure, enlightened, free, eternal. In order to advance in that direction, it is your duty to gather your own strength and proceed with the momentum gained by a new attitude towards life. i received diksha (initiation) from my teacher that evening, which included receiving my new name: Nandikesha, the ox-vehicle of Lord Shiva, his gaze forever fixed in meditative bliss upon his Lord.

the entire retreat was literally life-changing, it was an unspeakable blessing to have the chance to spend four undistracted days with Shambhavi, immersed in practice and opening totally to the teachings. i’ve learned so much! and so far yet to go! :) may any fruit from my time spent there, however humble, be of benefit to all beings. JAI MA!
